The regular season on Long Island will officially wrap up Week 1 with some interesting matchups.
Cold Spring Harbor, the preseason No 1 seed in Conference 4, hosts Syosset, the No. 1 preseason seed in Conference 1, in a 7:30 p.m. game.
In another night game, Bethpage, with three college-bound seniors in defensemen Paul Bitetti (Detroit-Mercy), Danny Chillianis (Mercy College) and midfielder Nick Pombonyo (Sacred Heart) hosts Hicksville with its “Mac Attack” of UNC sophomore commit Pat McCormick, senior Conor McAuley and three-year starter Mike McIlwee.
Manhasset, which saw its string of back-to-back state titles end last year, opens the season with a home game against Hewlett at 7 p.m.
Also at 7 p.m., Port Washington plays at Long Beach.
In a rivalry games, Lynbrook visits Farmingdale at 4:30 p.m.
While there are some big regular-season game, scrimmage action also continues.
Among the scrimmages on today’s slate: Defending Section 1 Class A champion Mahopac hosts New Canaan at 4:15 p.m. Fairfield Prep, Connecticut Class L state finalist last year, visits John Jay at 4 p.m., and defending Section 1 Class B champion Yorktown hosts Iona Prep at 4:30 p.m. Also in preseason action, Wilton hosts Joel Barlow at 4:30 p.m.
In Section 1 regular-season action, Pearl River hopes to bounce back from its 12-4 season-opening loss to John F. Kennedy when it plays at Eastchester at 4:30 p.m.
