Today is just the start of what promises to be an eventful week.
One that ends with a pair of showdowns of note: John Jay vs. Yorktown in the Hudson Valley and West Islip vs. Chaminade on Long Island.
Be sure to check our poll question as we will be soliciting your thoughts on both matchups, starting with John Jay-Yorktown.
To vote, go to the right panel of this page. Then, scroll past the “New Comments” and “Popular” tabs and click on “Poll.” You will then see the poll questions and can cast your vote from the multiples choices, or, write in your choice if it’s not one of the choices.
But we have plenty of action before Saturday.
Today’s Section 1 slate is highlighted by a girls game between two of the premier programs in the region as Lakeland/Panas visits John Jay.
In boys action, former Somers standout Brian Violante makes his debut as New Rochelle coach when the Huguenots host Dobbs Ferry. There will be a definite Somers theme for the 4:30 p.m. game. Violante’s assistants are a pair of former Tuskers who played at the Division I level — Rob Smith (Georgetown and Delaware) and Jon D’Ascoli (Quinnipiac). Dobbs Ferry is coached by former Tusker Greg Lewis (Manhattan College).
Clarkstown North hosts Hastings and Nyack visits Arlington in other season openers.
It’s a light day on Long Island. Among the matchups: South Side hosts Carey at 4:30 p.m.

Excited to see how this game between JJ and L/P turns out. I am wondering what JJ will have after they graduated Casey Bocklet…who has moved on to be a successful freshman at Northwestern. L/P should have another great year…anything less than a section title will be a disappointment. It is also a league game, so some big implications in the standings. I believe that it will be on MSG Varsity as well.
Well-played game won by LP 14-9. You can watch the game on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity iO Channel 14.
Hastings beats Clarkstown North 9-7.
