The parity and unpredictability that has marked the rapid growth of lacrosse at the high school and collegiate levels was also evident the last few days at the Under Armour All-America Classic and Underclass Tournament in Maryland.
For starters, the South team beat the North for just the second time in six years to win the AA Classic. For more on the 11-9 win, click here.
Then, there was the Underclass Tournament.
Early on, the West region team turned plenty of heads by not only beating Baltimore, but winning handily, 13-7.
In Sunday’s championship game, New England defeated Long Island 10-7. A strong defensive effort by New England included strong performances by Darien’s Tony Britton and Rye graduate Brian Pickup, who will attend Deerfield Academy.
Britton’s Darien teammate and fellow Cornell commit, Henry West, was among three players to score two goals for New England.

Both the New England and Long Island teams were minus two of the nation’s top incoming seniors. Duke University-bound Case Matheis of Darien was sidelined with a torn meniscus. Johns Hopkins University-bound Ryan Matthews of Manhasset was out with mono.
