Farmingdale players celebrate after ending West Islip’s 40-game win streak by pulling out a 10-9 win in the Long Island Class A championship game at Stony Brook University.

OK, be honest.

If I had told you in late March, when the season was just getting started, that two of Long Island’s three representatives in the state semifinals would have been Farmingdale and Bayport-Blue Point, what would you have said?

I thought so.

Well, it’s been that kind of season.

And there promise to be more surprises as we start the final week of the season.

Yesterday, of course, Farmingdale ended eight-time defending Suffolk County champion West Islip’s 40-game win streak by pulling out a 10-9  win in the Long Island Class A championship game at Stony Brook University. (In the photo at left, WI players react to the loss.)

That game headlines yesterday’s state quarterfinal contests played in New York and Connecticut and was among the main topics we discussed in our weekly tristate notebook for InsideLacrosse.com. We also run down the New Jersey Tournament of Champions semifinalists. You can check it out by clicking here.

Now, the state semifinal matchups we’ve been waiting for are set.

    predictions for downstate semis?

  2. ReLAX says:

If they can stop a forty game win streak by WI..they definitely BEAT Shen Lax..who lost to town in the one game town knocked off a bigtime lax name/program That wasn’t decimated by injuries…Dalers by a couple
Now since town has been knocking @ the door all year(except for that early season Shen Lax win) Town in a multi OT shocker against the great GC program/tradition
Because they’ve never been tested all year, & they virtually should have homefield… the Broncos finally face the music in the best case scenario. So sorry untested one, wake up call.. BBP is big enough & bad enough to stop 3 blue chip O players. They’re big strong close D shutdown the Grass’s to a couple. Charlie runs into kids just as big & badder. Jack needs to shine..But they lose by 3

  3. lax says:

Should be a great week of lacrosse with the perfect blend of old rivalries, new faces and Cinderella’s. Something for everyone and should be a good showcase for lacrosse.

  4. nylax11 says:

Yorktown needs to win face offs early and often to have a chance against Garden City.If Town can’t win face offs the game is over. The trojans defense is too good and Town will need to get up early.

  5. ReLAX says:

    Although, I’m predicting a Husker Shocker…in all likelyhood it’s a LI sweep w/ Nassau taking 2 of the 3!

  6. slacrosse says:

After watching the WI/Dale game, no way is Shen getting a “break” by playing this Farmingdale team.

  7. terpslax says:

I can’t see Ytown knocking of GC. GC off can be sluggish and deliberate but the D is so aggressive and quick – heck there worst pole (Burnside), would be the class of Section 1. I think GC wins 10-3

I think Farmingdale is flying under some peoples radar, these guys are loaded on O and are the best/ most aggressive ground ball team I have seen this year. They win big

  8. Syracuse says:

I got news for some of you, enjoy Wednesday while you can. Ithaca and Jamesville-DeWitt are likely to go to town against whomever they play.

  9. slacrosse says:

    Cuse,

Ma man, where are you coming from? Ithaca and JDW “are likely to go to town”??

Ith and JDW are no doubt great teams but Garden City is also one of the best teams in the country and are 1 yr older and more experienced then the team that lost to JDW last season. Farmingdale goes successfully thru a LI schedule, beats West Islip and and I say is not “likely” to go down to Ithaca. The only likely thing I see are close games between these 4 teams (if they get there).

Not to leave Town out at all. IF Town can upset GC they can do the same to JDW.
