Johns Hopkins-bound Mike Pellegrino during action yesterday for Connetquot in its 10-9 Suffolk County Class A quarterfinal-round win over Sachem North yesterday.
We now have our Section 1, Section 9 and FCIAC finalists.
And some interesting happenings on Long Island.
If you’re just joining us, welcome to Championship Week.
Connetquot, the “other” team not often mentioned in the race for the championship in arguably the nation’s most competitive class, Suffolk Class A, knocked off a team highly regarded in the preseason, Sachem North, 10-9, in yesterday’s quarterfinals. Connetquot will now take on West Islip in the Section 11 semis for the third year in a row. That game’s Friday.
Before we run down today’s Long Island playoff slate, first a quick programming note.
We’ve obviously been discussing the two dramatic overtime Section 1 semifinals the last two days – Lakeland/Panas’ 13-12 win at Suffern and John Jay’s 11-10 win at Somers.
We analyzed those two games and looked ahead to tomorrow’s finals on yesterday’s tristate segment on MSG Varsity’s “High School SportsDesk.” You can check it out now by clicking here.
Now, here’s a look ahead to the upcoming finals we mentioned.

interesting in that they did not name a coach…leaving the current club coach out to dry
Just waiting for Petro/Mich to finalize details–just kidding!
first, we can go to Water Moon, then over to Salzburg’s for desert…love that lemon merinque
After the atrocity that was the Syracuse uniforms this weekend, and the ridiculous jay stickers on the Hopkins helmets, I can’t wait for the Michigan lax unis.
Seriously agree about no mention of Paul? You’d think if he was in the picture (which I assume he would be) his name comes up with the announcement?
they do have to be a bit careful, he is not only well connected to the AD, he is a major fund raiser
joe what is the date of all section meeting?

I agree with both of you.
Very talented senior class for Section 1. Going to many good schools.
Janevy: Very successful in a very tough schedule inc. wins over upstate power Carthage and LI power Cold Spring Harbor
Schurr. Should seriously be considered for coaching a semi-final team in a tough schedule that was missing multiple key players due to injury.
Connelly of Arlington. He continues to build the program and had some close/very close losses to several top teams.
Marr. Guided Town through another brutal schedule into semi-finals with a tight loss to powerhouse, Smithtown West
Other Comments:
Horgan of Bville, a good coach for sure but doesn’t deserve special accolades for a great W/L record without having played one top team in the entire region. That holds if Bville beats BH today.
OK, Its halftime and I have the I-Pad with me and Im Bored, so here it goes.

I dont understand how Prunty is a lock. If anyone is a lock from LP its Caffrey. Prunty has not been close to the same caliber player he was last year. If he gets it, its based solely on the fact he got it last year.
Prunty has over 30 goals and over 50 assists, as a midfielder! The only reason Caffrey has as many goals as he does is because Prunty is throwing him the ball, and being guarded by the number one defenseman. He does more for his team in creating offense and making the right play than anyone else. If he’s not a lock for All-American, than they should stop giving out the award.
No question that Prunty is a good player. But to make a statement that he has done more than anyone else or that he gave Caffrey many of his goals is hard to believe. I watched Caffrey in the last several games and he seems to create many of his goals all by himself. And if MSG is correct that Caffrey has 80 goals I would think Caffrey gets the #1 pole playing him. You are also taking away from others on the team that have great impact.
You ask any coach who they’re more concerned about on that offense, and they’ll all say Prunty. He made the kids around him better, if that’s not the definition of an All-American, I don’t know what is.
Agree
Caffrey has scored a ton of goals on his own–you wonder how he gets deadly shots off–but he clearly does.
