We told you earlier this week that Sachem North now has seven seniors who have committed to collegiate programs.
Among that group is speedy defensive midfielder Fred Golini, who is headed to Hartwick.
Here’s a Q&A with Fred on his commitment:
What were the main factors in your decision to attend Hartwick?
It would have to be how well the coaches treated me (during the recruiting process), as well as the strong future of the program with all the right tools to win. They also have a good core group I’d love to play on a team with.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Delaware, Assumption and Western New England. I visited Assumption, Hartwick and Western New England
What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I will have to gain some weight as well as adjust to the speed of college lacrosse.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
How fast I am, as well as my quickness. I would describe my style of play as scrappy or gritty because of my desire to win.
What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
I never looked at one person in particular. I strived to be my own player. The type of player different from every other defensive midfielder out there.
When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
I first realized I could play college lacrosse when I was moved up to varsity in 10th grade and had a successful season with plenty of potential to play in college as (Sachem North) Coach (Jay) Mauro used to say.
