Folks, it takes a lot to impress me. And this game did and still does.
In fact, it may be the most dramatic and memorable high school games I’ve ever seen.
It happened back in June 2003 at Hofstra University.
Section 1’s Somers was playing in its fourth straight New York state title appearance, but had never before been able to win one.
That all changed this time around as the Tuskers won 11-10 in overtime.
With one second remaining in regulation, Somers forced overtime when Drew Maceranka unleashed a desperation shot with his long stick that went for his first goal of the season and one of the biggest in school history. It tied it up at 10-10.
Somers then won it on senior attackman Ryan Rabidou’s behind-the-back goal with just four seconds left in the first four-minute OT
The Tuskers pulled out the win against Manhasset even without two-time all-American Jordan Rabidou, who was sidelined with a torn quadriceps.

good game, its strange to see how the pace and the way the game looks has changed so much over just a few years
Maceranka’s goal — with a long stick and from just inside the box no less — in the last second of regulation to force OT makes this one of the all time classics.

Though a devastating way to lose – up 1 with one second in regulation and then losing in OT – Set has definitely come back and put together an impressive run since then.
Excellent point. This was a turning point game for Set as well as Somers.
I think Set had only won one state title at the time this game was played. Now they have won 2 in a row.
Set has four crowns i think….’94, ’04, ’08, ’09

Manhasset was led by Dan Denihan in 95. They lost at Yorktown during the regular season and then beat them (Town) pretty good at Hofstra in the semis. 04 was Southside in B and Manhasset in C.
Somers two best teams were 02 and 03. They went to the state finals in 03 so obviously that’s a good team.
Yes, both Jay and Somers lack a state trophy.
Mahopac has one. Town has 6. Lakeland has been there once.
The talk about D-1 Somers players in the Kieran Donohue story is very interesting. But this ’03 team has atleast 5 – Rabidous, Dascoli, Werney, Maceranka… Am I forgetting anyone?
