The United States will face Canada for the Federation of International Lacrosse World Games championship for the fourth straight time. The teams’ latest battle for the title will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Manchester, England. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
The U.S. rolled past Japan 20-5 in the semifinals as former Johns Hopkins star Paul Rabil had four goals and an assist and Kyle Dixon and Drew Westervelt each had three goals.
Canada advanced to the gold-medal game by beating Australia 15-6.
The U.S., which has won eight World titles in its history, fell to Canada 15-10 in the 2006 title game. Canada also has picked up a win over the U.S. in this year’s event, edging the U.S. 10-9 on July 17.
The World team includes several players from the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, and Army head coach Joe Alberici is an assistant on the team under head coach Mike Pressler. Let’s take this one boys!
We’ve lost 2 straight to the Canadians. Time for some payback!
Should be a great game.
Bold prediction here – should be a one goal game. I like USA of course. Looking forward to watching the game today at 11 am on ESPNU.
Best of luck to the Pride of Mahopac and Cornell University, Ryan McClay, who will be playing today for Team USA vs. Canada. Good luck Ryan and bring it home!
What an unbelievable game. One of the best lax games I’ve seen. To those who didn’t see it be sure to catch the replays on ESPNU. Joe, tremendous job getting this thorough recap up as soon as the game ended. How do you do it?
Tremendous game! U-S-A! U-S-A!
I agree. Great game. Nice job by McClay as Joe noted in the story on the game. He was named to the All World Team!
If you didn’t see this game live today watch it on the replay on ESPNU. Classic.
what an entertaining game…thought the US the better overall team, but Grant is simply at another level, and the Canadian goalie was amazing….if they don’t double Rabill quick in the second half, he might have had 6, 7 goals, an incredible combination of size, strength speed…subbing Crotty in the second half was also a great coaching move…
if you see nothing else, Grants over the shoulder goal, the speed and accuracy, will make you jump out of your seat
Great game. Congrats US!!
Great win US!
