A former collegiate lacrosse player from the tristate area is being remembered for his passion for the sport.

Tamarie Sterling, 23, of Stamford, Conn., died earlier this month after battling a rare type of liver cancer.

Born in Jamaica, Sterling moved to Stamford when he was 7 years old. He developed his passion for lacrosse, earning the nickname “Lax Monster.”

Sterling, a 2013 Stamford High School graduate, went on to play midfield at Greensboro College, where he graduated with a degree in 2017, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.
