After founding the Connecticut Chargers 11 years ago, the news first reported Tuesday on LaxLessons’ Lacrosse Insider that Jeff Brameier was breaking away to join the Express North program came as a surprise to many.
Brameier, of course, is the longtime head coach at three-time CT state champ Darien.
Brameier spearheaded the Chargers’ growth in becoming one the strongest clubs in Connecticut.
“I am very proud of the accomplishments of all those that have come through the Chargers and have been extremely happy to play an active role in the placement of many great players into the college ranks,” Brameier said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed the many relationships with both players and parents alike that I have been fortunate enough to form in my years as Director of the Chargers.”
Brameier characterized the Chargers’ final travel season the past couple of months as “an excellent summer of competition and fun.”
With his move, Brameier “will be getting back to basics doing what he does best: coaching, running practices, directing clinics, and recruiting,” Express North said.
“As the CT Charger program grew so did the amount of administrative duties,” Brameier said. “These duties pulled me away from what I love to do the most – teach and coach.”
The CT Chargers plan to continue operating and are in search of a new director.
Brameier has been head coach of Darien since its program’s inception in 1984 with a career record 572-132, a .823 winning percentage and is the third winningest high school lacrosse coach in the country and winnigest in CT history. Darien will start the 2018 season on a 54-game win streak, looking to win its 14th state title.
