Tristate title game recaps:

NY state finals

at St. John Fisher College, Rochester

Class A: Ward Melville 10, Pittsford 9, OT

Highlight: Matt Grillo capped one of the most memorable comebacks in state tournament history by scoring the game-winner on a dodge from behind the net with one second left in overtime. Ward Melville scored four times in the final 1:03 of regulation to tie it at 9-9 after regulation and had the last six goals of the game as the Patriots came away with their ninth state title.

Class B: Victor 9, Yorktown 3

Highlight: Three-time state titlist Victor’s start was Yorktown’s finish as the defending Class A state champs (above) jumped out to a 7-1 lead at the half. After getting the game’s first goal four minutes in, the Huskers went 26:38 before scoring their second goal midway through the third quarter.

Class C: Cold Spring Harbor 11, Jamesville-DeWitt 9

Highlight: The Seahawks (above) became the first-ever team on Long Island to win three straight state titles, overcoming a 4-1 deficit after the first quarter as Fairfield University-bound senior middie Taylor Strough finished with four goals. CSH, which finished the season 21-0 with a 28-game win streak, scored five straight goals in the fourth quarter and got a big lift from its defense, led by Hunter and Dylan Guarnieri and goalie Chris Porzelt (12 saves).

Class D: CBA-Syracuse 12, Westlake 4

Highlight: CBA outscored Westlake 5-1 in the second half to pull away to win the first Class D state title in state history.

CT state championships

at Brien McMahon, Norwalk

Class L: Darien 16, Cheshire 3

Highlight: The Blue Wave (above) extended their school record for consecutive state titles to four and their winning streak to 55 as Loyola-bound senior Kevin Lindley had seven goals, to add to his school record for goals in a season.

Class M: New Canaan 9, Daniel Hand 6

Highlight: The Rams scored the game’s final three goals to beat Hand for the third straight year in the finals as UNC-bound senior middie Ryan O’Connell, the all-time leading scorer in program history, had three goals and one assist and UVa-bound senior attackman Jackson Appelt one goal and three assists.

Class S: Somers 19, Waterford 5

Highlight: The Spartans coasted to their second straight state title and third overall as all-time leading scorer Christian Paley (headed to the University of Hartford) had four goals and three assists and Dom Giachello (bound for UMass Lowell) five goals and two assists.

NJ Tournament of Champions final

at Kean University

Delbarton 15, Moorestown 9

Highlight: The Green Wave held on for their 11th T of C title against a Moorestown team making its first appearance in the final. Delby ends the season with a 17-game win streak and 26 wins in its last 27 games.
