Campus facilities are often a big factor in a recruit’s college choice.
That was certainly the case for John Hoffman.
But in the case of the Class of 2019 attackman at Smithtown West High School (NY), academic facilities were just as important as athletic facilities.
Hoffman, who plans on majoring in Business and has decided where he’ll do just that: Providence College. His decision was first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section,
In Hoffman, Providence is getting not only its first rising sophomore commitment but an offensive talent. The 5-foot-9, 140-pound lefty has superb stick skills and a quick release.
Now, here’s a Q&A with John on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Providence was the best fit for me in every aspect. The coaching staff was amazing and made me feel comfortable right when I stepped foot on campus.
The campus was absolutely beautiful and they put in a brand-new facility that is just going to be used for Business courses.
Finally, the lacrosse facilities were amazing and all brand-new. The future for Providence lacrosse is very bright.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited and considered Yale, Bryant, and Lehigh.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
Business
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
The way I like to play is being able to create off the dodge. Both from the wing and at X. If the slide doesn’t come, I have the ability to finish, but also draw the double and be able to make an assist.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on my right hand in being abled to come around from X righty and being able to consistently finish with the off-hand. I can also improve in getting bigger and stronger as an athlete.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I got introduced to lacrosse first by my cousin when I was in first grade. He plays at UVa and I always wanted to be successful like he was.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play on the LI Outlaws where we played in many tournaments throughout the summer. Also, I played in the Prep School Showcase and I made the Suffolk Top 20 team in the LI Showcase.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank my parents for being so supportive and helpful throughout this process. Also I would like to thank Coach (Bob) Moltisanti and Mike Brennan for all the help throughout this process.
