Gareth Gacetta didn’t have to look far to find a perfect fit in a college program.
The Class of 2017 attackman/midfielder from Fairfield-Warde HS (CT) committed to Division III Connecticut College in the prestigious NESCAC Conference last week, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound righty is a feeder/finisher with a high lacrosse IQ.
A two-year varsity starter, Gacetta is also an outstanding student with a 3.7 GPA.
He’s Fairfield-Warde’s first rising senior verbal.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Gareth on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
A combination of the excellent academics, strong lacrosse program, and coaches. I also really enjoyed the campus when I visited.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was also considering Middlebury, Tufts and Lafayette and visited all three of those.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
I have not made a decision on my academic major but I am strongly considering Economics.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My shooting skills and my ability to see the field. I like to play at a high paced level.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
My footwork and gaining a more explosive first step.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My mom grew up in Manhasset, Long Island and gave me a stick for my birthday when I was 6. I started playing in a youth program in Wilton, CT in first grade.
I also play ice hockey. Our team won the CT state championship this year and I’m a captain for next year’s team.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Connecticut Chargers and have played in the Battle of Baltimore, Best of the Best. and Liberty Bell Challenge showcase tournaments. I also played in the FLG Big 10 tournament for 3d Tri-State.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
Special thanks to Coach Cunningham from Fairfield Warde. My CT Chargers coaches Celicourt, Burke, Velez, and Brameier. Coach Epstein. Coach Dobbins and Coach Kirks. And my parents.
