One of the elements of high school lacrosse that makes it so distinct from other varsity sports are the interstate matchups.

The genesis for these games came about when the sport was still new to most high schools in the area decades ago and the number of competitive programs was not widespread. So top-tier teams had to go out-of-state to face quality foes.

While that’s not true any longer, the tradition remains.

And who’s complaining?

One of the best days for premier interstate matchups is upon us with the renewal of the annual “Battle of the Sound,” which rotates between host schools. This year, Ridgefield High School and its Tiger Hollow Stadium will serve as hosts.
