There are a smattering of regular-season boys lacrosse games involving tristate teams.
Most notably, one of the premier programs on Long Island, Sachem North, has a big test at Maryland power Archbishop Spalding. Game-time is 3:30 p.m. on Spalding’s turf field.
Late word has come that Paul Benway, who has taken over as the Flaming Arrows’ new head coach, has not traveled with the team to Maryland because of an illness.
Benway had served as an assistant under Jason Mauro, who has moved on to the next level after 11 years as Sachem North head coach. Mauro accepted a volunteer assistant coaching position at nearby Stony Brook University. Mauro remains a special education teacher in the Sachem School District.
On Long Island, Oyster Bay and Hicksville open their seasons at Hicksville, Locust Valley visits Port Washington and Lindenhurst hosts Mattituck.
