The first Class of 2018 commitment for Siena College comes from New Jersey: Richie Bianchi, a defender at Ocean Township (NJ), a decision first reported last week by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
Bianchi, a righty, is a fundamentally sound position defender with good anticipation and takeaway skills who excels in the open field. He is especially strong on groundballs.
The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Bianchi is also an outstanding student with a 3.7 GPA.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Richie on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Siena just seemed like the right fit for me and my family. We loved the school the team and especially the coaching staff it felt like home kind of.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
It was really between Monmouth and Siena but I knew the whole time u wanted to be a Saint.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
I plan to major in finance.
What are your strengths as a player?
I get after the ball every time it’s on the ground and move it up field and am hardworking and determined to get the win.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I think the one thing I struggle with a little is my slides so I will be working on that in the offseason and change that for this upcoming season.
When were you first introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
One of my friends introduced me to lacrosse back in fifth grade and from there I knew this is what I wanted to do.
I’ve played football wrestled and swam
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Team United. I’ve attended Maverick Showtime last year and will be attending it again this upcoming year. I’ve also attended the Capital Challenge, hosted by United.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would just most importantly like to thank my family for driving and flying all over the place to take me to tournaments and showcases couldn’t have done it without them.
And also like to that all the coaches at United for all the knowledge and skills they have taught me. And lastly my all my teammates from United and ocean township couldn’t have done it with out those guys.
