Yorktown, which won the New York state title in 2014, its seventh in school history, has been making noise on the commitment scene the last few weeks, if you’ve been following along with Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The Huskers picked up their first 2017 commitment late last month when attackman Justin Cavallo decided on Albany, which is coached by Scott Marr, the brother of Yorktown head coach Dave Marr.
The 5-11, 195-pound lefty is a pure finisher who had 45 goals and 15 assists his sophomore season with the Huskers.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Justin on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The campus. It was one of the favorites I’ve seen.
I was able to see myself living there for four years of my life.
Another factor was Coach Marr. I felt a great connection with him from the moment I met him.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was also considering St. Joseph’s, Cortland and Rutgers.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
Business Finance.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are that I am a huge contact player and also have no problem reading my teammates to create a nice feed.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I am going to work on all areas of my game because it only gets faster and quicker from here on out.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I was introduced to lacrosse in second grade, and never put the stick down. I also play football.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Yorktown Ballers. I participated in the Maverick showtime, NHSLC and North American Lacrosse Cup.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank God, my family, my friends and all of my coaches that have helped me get to this point in my life. I was always taught by my parents to never give up and always fight the fight to be all you can be.
