From press release
After a three-day tryout that hosted 105 players at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md., US Lacrosse today announced the 50 players who will be invited to training camp with the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Under-19 Team.
These 50 players will next reconvene for a second training camp Aug. 7-9 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. The weekend will culminate with a Team USA Blue-White exhibition game at Homewood Field, Sunday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. Admission is free for US Lacrosse members and $5 for non-members.
Ultimately, 23 players will be named to the final roster for the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championship, July 7-16, 2016, in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
In February, US Lacrosse announced Ohio State University head coach Nick Myers as head coach of the U.S. Men’s Under-19 National Team. Myers will lead the team in its quest for an eighth consecutive world title at the FIL World Championship, and is assisted by Patrick Myers (University of Pennsylvania), Chuck Ruebling (Delbarton School) and Peter Toner (Penn State University).
“Expectations are high for this team, and the men certainly rose to the occasion over the past three days,” Myers said. “We got an incredible effort from all those involved at camp. We feel strongly that we laid the foundation for our team moving forward. We are grateful for the amazing support we received and excited to get back at it in August.”
The player selection committee was comprised of the U.S. U19 coaching staff, five elite high school coaches from around the country and the US Lacrosse Men’s National Team Subcommittee Chair. Additionally, four other top high school coaches were brought in as sideline coaches and assisted in player evaluation.
