The lacrosse community at one of the tristate’s top varsity programs is mourning a sudden loss today.

Summit High School assistant coach Kyle Kirst has died of an apparent heart attack. He was 47.

Kirst, an assistant for the last 10 seasons, ran the Hilltoppers’ vaunted matchup zone defense.

A 1990 Rutgers graduate, Kirst, a resident of Bernardsville, is survived by a wife and five sons, including Connor Kirst, who just finished his senior season at Delbarton.

A wake has been scheduled for Thursday, June 18 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gymnasium School of St. Elizabeth on 30 Seney Drive in Bernardsville.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Friday, June 19 at 12:30 p.m at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville.

A memorial fund has been established in Coach Kirst’s memory.
