From press release
US Lacrosse has announced the 108-player tryout pool for the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Under-19 Team, with tryouts to be held from June 29-July 1 at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md.
After the three-day tryout, approximately 50 players will be selected to return for a second tryout Aug. 7-9 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. Ultimately, 23 players will be named to the final roster for the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, July 7-16, 2016, in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
In February, US Lacrosse announced Ohio State University head coach Nick Myers as head coach of the U.S. Men’s Under-19 National Team. Myers will lead the team in its quest for an eighth consecutive world title at the FIL World Championship, and will be assisted by Patrick Myers (University of Pennsylvania), Chuck Ruebling (Delbarton School) and Peter Toner (Penn State University).
Nearly 400 applicants from 28 states applied for consideration to the tryout pool, including more than 140 commits to 2015 NCAA Division I tournament teams. From there, a diverse group of high school and college coaches from around the country assisted the coaching staff in evaluating and ranking each player.
“We are excited by the overwhelming response we received from the very best young men this country has to offer on the lacrosse field,” said Myers. “I want to thank the selection committee for all their hard work and effort to narrow this competitive field of applicants. The staff is looking forward to the June tryout and taking the next big step toward building a championship team.”
