On a day in which Connecticut public schools started their regular seasons, Suffolk County on Long Island stole the spotlight.
In one of the biggest wins in school history, Commack stunned Sachem North 11-10 on an overtime goal by Joe Elarde. Maryland-bound Kevin Snyder dominated faceoffs and scored a goal. Mike Paccione had three goals and one assist and Tom Mangeri three goals for the Cougars.
In New Jersey, Ramapo outlasted Glen Ridge 9-8 in triple overtime to improve to 5-0.
Defending Connecticut state champ Darien rolled to a 21-0 win over Westhill and New Canaan beat St. Joseph’s 17-5 to start the season.
