It was a light Monday in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate region, but some interesting storylines emerged.

* John F. Kennedy Catholic in Somers (NY), which joined the CHSAA last year, gave perennial Class AA Metro finalist Fordham Prep a scare in a 10-9 loss. Last season, FP beat JFK 19-3. In the teams’ latest meeting Ryan Podlovits won 13-of-18 faceoffs and had two goals and an assist. Gerard Martirano had four goals and two assists. Brewster transfer Alex Souza was 2-2 and quarterbacked the offense.

“The key to the game was totally outhustling them, and limited crease shots with our defense,” said Kennedy Catholic co-coach Nick Savastano. “I am proud of my guys for stepping up to a top team in the area.”

* On Long Island, Half Hollow Hills East is now 5-0 after a 12-3 win over William Floyd. UPenn-bound sophomore Sean Tulley, who’s been on a scoring tear, went 4-1. Joe Tesoriero had three goals and Andre Gomez two goals. Jordan Eichholz made eight saves.

Now, here are some of the games we’ll be keeping an eye on here today, including a pair of Section 1 vs. Section 8 (NY) matchups as defending Class C state champ Bronxville visits 2012-13 Class B state champ Garden City at 4:45 p.m. and John Jay hosts Manhasset at 6 p.m.
