It was the first full jam-packed Thursday in the NY/NJ/CT tristate hotspot.
Among the highlights:
* Yorktown, the defending NY Class B state champ, started its 50th season of varsity competition with an 18-6 win at Brewster, the first of three straight road games for the Huskers.
* Jack Walsh scored the game-winner as 2014 Suffolk (NY) Class B finalist Miller Place beat Islip 9-8.
* Defending Suffolk (NY) Class B champ Rocky Point beat East Hampton 16-9 led by finisher Alex Borja’s six goals and one assist and feeder Brendan Cain’s one goal and six assists.
*Joe Cortez’s goal with five seconds left gave Lakeland/Panas a 12-11 win against John Jay.
* Shoreham-Wading River (NY) downed Harborfields (NY) 18-10 to start the season.
* Sophomore Will Snelders’ game-winning goal gave Comsewogue (NY) a 6-5 season-opening OT win over Mount Sinai (NY).
* Steve Frank, Danny Murphy, Ryan Nawrocki each had two goals as Hauppauge (NY) picked up a 6-5 season-opening win vs. Huntington (NY).
* Putnam Valley (NY) beat Wappingers (NY) 7-6 in the first game for new Wappingers head coach Brian Kuczma, the former Put Valley coach.
Friday’s slate has some big matchups on Long Island.
