If you’ve been following along on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section, you know there were two brand-new Class of 2018 commitments made last week.
One of them came from upstate New York, where Baldwinsville midfielder Peter Fiorini decided on Syracuse.
The 6-foot-3, 165-pound lefty is an alley dodger with good awareness, athleticism, field vision and a strong shot who is also adept at feeding teammates.
Fiorini is the son of longtime Baldwinsville coach Pete Fiorini, who stepped down last season after his 35th year as varsity coach in which he amassed 405 wins.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Peter on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I have always dreamed of going to SU. Syracuse offers a phenomenal lacrosse program as well as great academics.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Virginia, Princeton, Richmond and Penn State.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Good vision and field awareness, athleticism, strong shot with my left hand, excellent alley dodger, ability to create offense from the defensive half of the field, ability to create plays for teammates, unselfishness.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
Improve right-hand shooting and dodging ability.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My dad is a longtime coach and I was introduced to the game at a very young age (3). I have played football and continue to play basketball.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Orange Crush. I have been to the Philly Freshman Showcase and Syracuse 2018 Prospect Day event. I am attending the Orange Crush showcase in June and the Maverik Showtime Showcase in July.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank my dad for always being an amazing coach/mentor to me.
I would also like to thank Coach Johnson, Coach Jackson, Coach Scaramuzzino, Coach Wilcox and all of my other coaches that have helped me reach this point.
