Stefani Peluso was familiar with the world of college lacrosse long before she became a target recruit of several Division I women’s programs.
Peluso, after all, is the daughter of Stevens Tech men’s coach Gene Peluso.
A Class of 2017 attack for NJ power Immaculata, Peluso verbally committed earlier this week to Wagner, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Stefani on her commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I was looking for a school that was close to home and that is not too big.
I wanted to attend a school with a great coaching staff that cares about their players.
I also wanted to attend a school where the team and players are tight-knit.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered and visited Rutgers, Drexel, Brown, Old Dominion, High Point and Stevens.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would say my strengths are stick skills, dodging, shooting and off ball play. I think my style of play is run and gun.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I always try to work and improve on feeding and re-defending.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My father introduced me to lacrosse when I was really young. Then Coach (Al) Harris (Relentless Hustle) worked with me when I lived in Rochester. I always knew I wanted to play college lacrosse! I also play basketball.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Ultimate Lacrosse.
I have attended the Nike Elite 120 the past two years. I have been selected to Brine National Lacrosse Classic (NJ team).
I have also been selected to play for FCA National HS team in Lake Placid in August, 2015.
In summer of 2014, I played in the U15 Club Championship in Denver for Ultimate U15 Elite.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I want to thank my dad for introducing me to lacrosse.
My mother, who is a school teacher, for helping me balance academics and athletics.
My younger brother Patrick has always supported me and is a great person to practice with.
I want to thank Al Harris (Relentless Hustle Coach), Coach (Chelsea) Rosiek and Coach (Michele) Dejuliis (Ultimate coaches) for the help in the recruiting process.
Also I want to thank (Wagner Head) Coach (Liz) Frisoli and her staff for helping me feel like a part of the Wagner lacrosse family.
