If you saw our latest update, posted Saturday morning, on our Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section, you know Fox Lane High School now has three — count ’em, three — standouts bound for major Division I programs.
With the Foxes in Class A — away from defending state champs Yorktown (Class B) and Bronxville (Class C) — come playoff time, hopes are high in the rolling hills of Bedford (NY).
For more on the Foxes, we check in with the player who started the wave of commitments: Syracuse University-bound junior Cullen Morgan.
Morgan, an athletic two-way midfielder, became the first sophomore to give a D-I commitment in Foxes’ program history when he verballed to the Orange in October 2013, a development first reported on LaxLessons.com.
Now, here are Cullen’s perspectives on the upcoming season.
What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
Personally, I have been shooting with my shooting coach, Johnny Carrozza, and lifting with my trainer, Pete McLean, three times a week along with shooting alone as much as possible. As a team we practice once a week after school.
How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
With our new league, our schedule is extremely difficult this year. I’m looking forward to playing Horace Greeley, Yorktown, and most of all, John Jay.
What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
A few players I think will surprise some people this season are our junior goalie Colin Smith, junior attackman Ryder Beitzel and senior defenseman Joe Paul.
What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
This year our entire defense is returning and all of them have been playing together since first grade so, I believe our defense will be our strength this year.
How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
In our league, some contenders will definitely be Yorktown and John Jay.
For our Class (Class A), I’m extremely determined to achieve a championship. Some contenders are, of course, Lakeland/Panas, Mamoroneck, and Mahopac.
