Joey Goodwin may not be the biggest goaltender around, but the junior at New Jersey power Mountain Lakes makes up for his lack of size in many other ways.
Goodwin has good footwork, stick skills, outstanding field vision, is a strong stopper and also strong on clears.
Sound like a college goaltender?
He soon will be, having given a verbal commitment to Jacksonville University, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-6, 160-pound Goodwin is the Lakers’ second 2016 verbal, joining attackman Trevor Benedetto (Monmouth).
Now, here’s a Q&A with Joey on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Jacksonville was a great fit for me lacrosse wise and academic wise with an excellent business school.
(Jacksonville Head) Coach (Guy) Van (Ardsdale), (Assistant Coach Jacob) Baxter and (Assistant Coach Alex) Lopes have the team heading in a great direction this season.
When I was down on campus, I really felt wanted by the coaches and with an excellent school like Jacksonville it is going to be a great college experience to be down there especially at the D-I level.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Siena, West Point, Rutgers, St Joe’s and Manhattan.
What travel team do you play on?
Laker Future.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you get to this point?
I want to thank my head coach Tim Flynn for getting me into top recruiting showcases and camps and for the exposure I recieved all year long. I would also like to thank my dad for the amount of time he’s given up to get me to where I am now.
