It was a season that will go down in history for Bronxville, which won a New York state title for the first time this past spring.

The Broncos, of course, will be prominent in our preseason coverage heading into 2015. We will be checking in with several Broncos’ standouts. For a first look at Bronxville, we get the thoughts of Princeton-bound defender Charlie Tarry, (pictured at left in the photo above), fresh off earning a spot in LaxLessons’ Tristate Top 100 preseason player rankings, which you can access here.

playerperspectiveNow, here are Charlie’s perspectives on the upcoming season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
Everyone has been working really hard to get ready.  A lot of guys have put in serious time over the summer to improve their games and hopefully that will show this season.  As a team, we played in two highly competitive fall tournaments at Philly and and the Tom Rotanz Classic and we are playing in a winter league this year.

Also, preseason team workouts start up shortly after Christmas break.  For me personally, I’ve gotten in the weight room a little bit to try and get stronger for the season.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
Our schedule is going to be highly competitive this year starting right away in the beginning of the season.  We open up playing a very good Smithtown East team.  Other games we look forward to are Greenwich, John Jay, and Smithtown West, as well as heading down to Haverford to play in the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament.

As for scrimmages, we have our usual one against Iona Prep, which is always very competitive.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
Most people already know about key guys like Henry Grass, Ted Forst and Michael Crawford, but I think we have several other guys primed for breakout years.  In particular, Robby Westerfield should be strong in the midfield for us and R.J. Ambrose has great hands and is a great finisher around the goal who should play well also.

In addition, two sophomore midfielders in Ara Atayan and Andrew Murray are great talents and should do big things for us.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
I think we have a lot of great returning offensive talent and leadership this year and we should be able put up a lot of goals against teams.  We should be solid defensively as well.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
Our league was switched up this year, so we play some new teams.  Pleasantville is now in our league, and as our opponent in the last two sectional final games, we expect them to be a tough team.
