Visiting hours and a funeral mass have been scheduled by the family of Jim Oliveri, a longtime Suffolk County (NY) lacrosse and football official, who died on Friday after a battle with cancer. He was 58.
Visiting hours, at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home at 245 Montauk Highway in West Sayville are scheduled for 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The funeral mass will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene at 1140 Locust Ave. in Bohemia.
Oliveri, the father of UMass goaltender and former Connetquot HS standout Zach Oliveri, is also survived by his wife Sharon and children Cassandra, Alyssa, Alex and Jon.
Oliveri had recently retired as a teacher in the Central Islip School District, teaching grade 8-12 general science, honors and regents earth science and chemistry, AP chemistry and regents biology.
A football standout at tight end and linebacker for Connetquot, where he graduated in 1974, Oliveri went on to attend New York Tech.
He also coached football at Central Islip High School from 1980-82 and on Connetquot from 87-98 for the varsity team.
