Ward Melville went back to the future in 2013, finishing 2013 and winning their eighth New York state title, but first since 2000.
The Patriots hope to take a trip back to their proud past once again in 2015 after a 2014 season in which they finished 12-6, falling to West Islip in the Suffolk County Class A quarterfinals.
One of the catalysts of the Patriots’ 2013 return to glory was a sophomore named Dan Bucaro. Fast forward two years, and the Georgetown University-bound attackman, one of the nation’s top seniors, hopes to make his final varsity season a memorable one.
Now, here are Dan’s perspectives on the upcoming season.
What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I’ve been working out and doing speed training at Parisi speed school. I’ve also been going to the high school and practicing with my teammates.
How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
The schedule is tough, but I look forward to every game this year. This fall, we played in Shoreham-Wading River High School Showcase and played Greenwich (Conn.), Trinity Pawling, Hill Academy, and Smithtown East.
What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I believe Connor Grippe, Andrew Lockhart, Dom Pryor, Eddie Munoz, Andrew McKenna and Matt Cirrone will surprise some people this season.
What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
I believe we are a well-balanced team with a powerful offense and defense.
How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
(Suffolk County) League I is very talented division with Smithtown East and West, West Islip, Northport, Sachem North, and us. The playoff run should be interesting.
