Fall 2014 Signing Week coverage
Marist College has become a force in landing Long Island commitments and the Red Foxes recently corralled another one.
It comes from Bayport-Blue Point Class of 2016 attackman Jake Weinman, a decision first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-9, 145-pound Weinman, a lefty, made the Suffolk County rising sophomore team. He is also a hockey standout.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Jake on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I loved the location, coaching staff and competitive nature of the team.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Air Force, UMass, Salisbury and Stony Brook.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I think playing box lacrosse helps me to have the ability to see a play develop before it happens and find soft spots in the defense.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
My right hand.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My dad had a stick in my hand almost as soon as I could walk. I also play ice hockey and golf.
What travel team do you play on and what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Team 91 2016 Orange and participated in Peak 200 and Nike Legacy Showcase.
Any final thoughts and people you would like to thank for helping you along the way?
I would like to thank my family and all my teammates.
I would also like to thank Brian Spallina, Seth Tierney, Brian O’Keefe and Mike Luce.
