When it comes to athleticism, Andre Gomez is already among the top lacrosse standouts on Long Island.
The junior midfielder at Half Hollow Hills East HS is also a standout in football and basketball.
As a lacrosse player, Gomez has already accomplished a lot, but he says his game is far from being perfect. That potential made him a marquee recruit for several top Division I programs.
Last week, Gomez decided on one, giving a verbal commitment to Bryant University, a decision first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Gomez, a righty, is a two-way midfielder who is especially dangerous in transition.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Andre on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The academic standards at Bryant University and (Bryant Head) Coach (MIke) Pressler is one of the best coaches in the game.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I also considered Stony Brook, Rutgers and Richmond. I visited Stony Brook and Richmond
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I have the ability to create offense and also play both sides of the ball. I like to push in the transition game as well as dodge from both up top and behind the cage.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I can get better in every aspect. Nothing is perfect about my game right now.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
My parents introduced me to the game.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Team 91 and this past summer participated in the Under Armour All-American games playing for Team Long Island in the Underclassman games. I also went to Adrenaline Black Card and Jake Reed.
Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my parents for all their support and time they gave me as well as all my past and present coaches who have developed me as a player.
