The Class of 2015 for St. Anthony’s HS (NY) has climbed to 15 college committed players.
So the Friars’ rising juniors have a ways to go to catch up. But they’re gaining some ground.
The latest Class of 2016 standout from St. A’s to make a commitment is Aidan Conk, a 6-foot-3 defender, who verballed to Furman University, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Conk, a righty, is a lanky and rangy athlete who is aggressive on groundballs and dangerous on clears.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Aidan on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Furman felt like a perfect fit for me right when I stepped on campus. The location is perfect in Greenville, S.C., and I cannot wait to be there.
From an academic standpoint, I believe a degree from Furman University can open up many doors for me in the future. The coaching staff there is great and I am looking forward to being coached by them.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering a lot of Division II and Division III schools, but Furman is the only school I visited.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I’d say my two greatest strengths on the field are my groundball game and my lacrosse IQ. I am relentless with groundballs and my instincts are superb. I am more of a positional player out there.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to keep improving my footwork and weak hand.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
Lacrosse was introduced to me back in pre-K. Thats when my town team was formed and I’ve loved the game ever since then. I played football for a couple of years and I still play basketball at St. Anthony’s High School.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for LI Express Barracudas and I’ve attended Nike Blue Chip, Maverik Showtime, Philly Showcase and National 175.
Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my mom who has been very supportive of me throughout my whole life. I would also like to thank all the coaches I’ve played for. I wouldn’t be in this position without you all.
Lastly, I’d like to thank Coach Chanenchuk and Coach Lynott for all their help in this process over the last couple of years.
