St. Anthony’s (NY) has reached a dozen when it comes to Class of 2015 commitments.
Attackman/midfielder Chris Buscemi’s verbal to St. John’s University marked the 12th rising senior Friar to decide on a college, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
Equipped with ideal size at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, is a righty who combines strength and skills with a high lacrosse IQ. He mainly played attack this past varsity season.
He is the younger brother of 2013 St. Anthony’s graduate Michael Buscemi, a midfielder who just completed his freshman year at NYIT.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Chris on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
How close it was to home, the good education I will get from St. John’s and the overall feel of the campus.
I really liked the whole coaching staff they were very helpful throughout the decision process. I will have the opportunity to play lacrosse at the highest level at a great facility.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Some of the other schools I considered were Stevenson, NYIT, Hartford, St. Joseph’s , Boston University and Lafayette. I visited all of those schools also.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strong points as a player would be my physical size and strength as well as my lacrosse IQ. I would say that I am a smart lacrosse player who can always get open and find the open man. I always try to get my teammates involved and move the ball quickly.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on my footwork and agility to get quicker. You always need to work on off-hand stick skills.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My dad introduced me to lacrosse when I was about 5 or 6 and loved it from the first day I played. I have also played football.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Long Island Express. I have attended Nike Blue Chip, Under Armour Shootout, and National Invite 175.
Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank many people. First, my parents for always supporting me throughout the whole recruiting process and always being there for me. I would also like to thank coaches (Doug) Schreiber, (Mike) Chanenchuk and (Keith) Wiezcorek for all their training and coaching through the years. I also would like to thank Coach (Anthony) Zawadski and Mr. Keith Huber for helping me get through my recruiting process.
