HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Making its first New York state championship game appearance, Massapequa cruised to a 16-2 win over Section 3’s Fayetteville-Manlius in the Class A championship game at Hofstra University on Saturday.
Massapequa (19-2), which ends the year with a 17-game winning streak, won the possession game, with a 47-18 advantage on groundballs and by winning 16-of-19 faceoffs, led by Phil Brady.
Massapequa jumped out to a 5-2 first-quarter lead and led 6-2 at the half before outscoring the Hornets 4-0 in the third quarter with Towson University-bound Ian Kirby scoring three of those goals in a two-minute span.
Nick Yevoli, who had three goals, was offensive MVP. Goalie Matt Valdini, who made seven saves, was defensive MVP.
