If you’re heading to the FCIAC semifinal doubleheader at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Conn., on Tuesday, you may want to be prepared to stay a while.
Both games, after all, are rematches of overtime regular-season games.
Two-time defending champion New Canaan (14-3), the No. 4 seed, faces unbeaten Darien (17-0) in the first game at 5 p.m. Then, No. 3 Ridgefield (14-3) faces No. 2 Greenwich (15-2) at 7 p.m.
Darien beat New Canaan 11-10 in overtime. Greenwich beat Ridgefield 8-7 in four overtimes.
It’s Nassau County Championship Day on Long Island, with the winners advancing to the Long Island Championships (New York state quarterfinal round) on Saturday, May 31.
The tripleheader at Hofstra University begins at 3:30 p.m. as defending Class A champion Massapequa (15-2) takes a 13-game win streak into this year’s title game, against second-seeded Syosset (13-4). Top-seeded ‘Pequa won the teams’ regular-season meeting 18-7.
A new champion in Class B will be determined when Manhasset meets Lynbrook. Manhasset (11-7) defeated two-time New York Class B state champion Garden City 4-3 in the semifinals. Lynbrook (17-1) has won 12 straight since losing to the Friends Academy on April 5, including an 8-7 overtime win over Manhasset. Game-time is 5:30 p.m.
Cold Spring Harbor will be making its 11th straight county title-game appearance when the top-seeded Seahawks (12-4) take on third-seeded Locust Valley in the Class C title game at 8:30 p.m. CSH won the teams’ regular-season meeting 10-8.
The Suffolk County (NY) Class C title will be decided as No. 1 Babylon (9-7) takes on Bayport-Blue Point (10-7) at 6 p.m. at Dowling Sports Complex.
CHSAA (NY) AA Intersectional championship games will feature Nassau-Suffolk champ Kellenberg vs. Metro champ Iona Prep (Class AA) and Nassau-Suffolk champ St. Dominic vs. Metro champ Archbishop Stepinac.
