The news was not good for Smithtown West and its fans on Friday as the top-seeded Bulls were upset by No. 5 West Islip 8-7 in the Suffolk (NY) Class A semifinals.
But less than 24 hours later, Smithtown West’s presence was very prominent on a national stage as former Bull Kyle Keenan (shown above from his senior year at Smithtown West in 2011) scored four goals on four shots as Duke defeated Denver 15-12 in the Division I semifinals at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
Ironically, a former West Islip player also had an unexpected huge impact in the win, similar to Keenan, a junior at Duke who had being employed as a second-line midfielder before filling in for injured attackman Josh Dionne,
Kyle Turri, a former All-America goaltender for West Islip, came off the bench in the second half to stand tall in goal for the Blue Devils, making some big saves to preserve the Duke lead.

Duke will play the Maryland-Notre Dame winner in the title game on Monday in Baltimore.
