Third-seeded Smithtown East scored 11 second-half goals and in the process snapped No. 2 Sachem North’s 11-game win streak with a 17-11 victory in the Suffolk County (NY) Class A semifinals Friday. With the win, the East-side Bulls earned their first-ever appearance in the Suffolk title game, where they will play No. 5 West Islip, which stunned top-seeded Smithtown West 8-7 in the other semi.
The Suffolk Class A title game will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Stony Brook University.
Connor Desimone, Dan Rooney and Brian Willetts each had four goals and one assist in Smithtown East’s win at Sachem North. Joe Saggese had two goals and three assists. West Islip got nine saves from Greg Ponce and an outstanding effort from defenders Nick Capone, AJ Ilchert and Ian Prate in the win at West. Trevor Bovich had three goals. Kyle Ziegler had two goals and an assist and Michael Moynihan two goals.
