Call it Telltale Tuesday.
There’s no shortage of matchups on the slate that will reveal plenty as we get set for the regular-season stretch run in a few weeks.
On Long Island, there are a few big battles.
Nassau powers Syosset and Massapequa meet at ‘Pequa, Smithtown East takes an eight-game win streak into its home game against red-hot Sachem North, which last week beat both Northport and Hauppauge. If that’s not enough for you, unbeaten Smithtown West hosts Ward Melville in a rematch of the 2013 Suffolk Class A title game.
Unbeaten Bergen Catholic (7-0) ventures beyond the Northeast for a big game. The Crusaders (7-0) will face the Cherry Creek (CO) Bruins (10-2) in Cherry Creek, Colo. Game time is 6 p.m. EST.
Two other top teams from New Jersey, Delbarton and Chatham, square off in a 4:30 p.m. meeting at Chatham. Delby is coming off a huge win over Mountain Lakes. Chatham had a noteworthy win over Seton Hall Prep last week.
In an NJ vs. NY matchup, Don Bosco Prep visits St. Anthony’s.
Connecticut neighbors Ridgefield and Wilton meet in a 6:15 p.m. game at Ridgefield’s Tiger Hollow Stadium.
Over the border in Westchester, White Plains visits Archbishop Stepinac in the Battle of White Plains and John Jay takes a six-game win streak into its 4:30 p.m. home game against a Lakeland/Panas team coming off an upset loss to Horace Greeley. Greeley, meanwhile, hopes to spring another upset when it visits Somers. In another Section 1 game of note, rivals Yorktown and Mahopac meet at Charlie Murphy Field at YHS.
Further north in the Hudson Valley, Section 9 rivals Pine Bush and Kingston collide in a 7 p.m. matchup at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
