Former Smithtown West High School (N.Y.) standout James Pannell had four goals, including the winner at the 2:16 mark of overtime, as the University of Virginia outlasted visiting Loyola 14-13 Thursday night to start the season.

Loyola, which trailed by a seemingly insurmountable score of 12-4 after three quarters, rallied to force overtime by outscoring UVa 9-1 in the fourth. In fact, the Greyhounds took a 13-12 lead before UVa tied it in the final second of regulation on a goal by Ryan Tucker off a Pannell feed.

Four players — Tyler Albrecht, Romar Dennis, Brian Schultz, Nikko Pontrello and Matt Sawyer — each had two goals for the Greyhounds.
