We head down to Maryland for our latest verbal commitment.
It comes from Severn School midfielder Nathan Boldyga.
Boldyga, a Brine All-American, has committed to Oberlin College, as first reported earlier this week by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-8, 180-pound Boldyga is a versatile player with a strong, righty shot who can also face off.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Nathan on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I really wanted a small school that offered a great education and allowed me to play lacrosse. I also didn’t want to be too far away from home, and Ohio is a good distance.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was looking at Bowdoin, Colby, Lafayette, Haverford, Drew and Washington. I visited all of them, only three of them I actually met with the coaches and talked about playing.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Definitely transition, defense and stick skills. I play passively and am a good team player, but I know when I should attack the cage.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on knowing when to shoot and letting it go. I have a great shot, but don’t shoot as much as I should.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I started playing in seventh grade for the rec area C division team, and also played soccer and golf.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I played for the Chesapeake Rock and participated in the Brine National Tournament and the Diamond Showcase.
Any final thoughts?
I definitely want to thank my parents for putting in the hours and effort to get me to all of the events and just keep me in line. I also want to thank my club coach Keith Askenas for helping me become a better player throughout the past three years.
