Josh Oliver is heading back North.
The Canadian native, who is a 2013 Vermont Academy product, will be transferring to SUNY Plattsburgh from Jacksonville University.
Oliver, a 6-foot-3 attackman, had decided on Jacksonville in February, 2012 after decommitting from Quinnipiac. He had verballed to Quinnipiac in November 2011.
“I decided to leave Jacksonville at the beginning of the school year,” Oliver said.
Oliver said his reasons for leaving were not lacrosse related.
“(Jacksonville Head) Coach (Guy) Van Arsdale is a great coach and the JU players are all great guys,” Oliver said. “I wanted to be closer to home and at a larger school and Plattsburgh offered me both of those things.”
Oliver said he considered many Division I, II and III programs before deciding on SUNY Plattsburgh. He will be a full-time student at Plattsburgh starting Jan. 20 and will be eligible to play in the 2014 season.
“But to me, Plattsburgh had everything I was looking for in an institution and I am happy to have landed there and am excited to get the 2014 season underway,” Oliver said. “After talking to (SUNY Plattsburgh Head) Coach (Ryan) Cavanagh, I got a great feel about being a Cardinal.
“It was Coach Cav’s attitude and optimistic outlook about winning that sold me on Plattsburgh and I hope I can help my team win some games this upcoming season.”
