Summit (N.J.), which has emerged as a national power the last decade, picked up its ninth Class of 2014 commitment last week.
It was made by 2014 longstick midfielder Nick Zachara, who decided on St. Lawrence, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 6-foot, 170-pound Zachara is a righty who excels in unsettled situation and transition, with his speed and stick skills evident on groundballs, clears, faceoffs and fast breaks.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Nick on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
First and foremost, academics. SLU has a new business program that is very appealing to me. I love the outdoors, so the location is perfect. The coaching staff and members of the team also really helped make my decision, they were all super friendly and very supportive.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering UNH, Union, F&M and Susquehanna.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on my on-ball defense, especially one on one.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I’ve been playing lacrosse since second grade, along with basically everyone else in Summit. I am also the captain and goalie of the soccer team.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I played for Summit Futures. I’ve been to Blue Chip 225 last summer and made the all star team there. I attended National Invitational 175 this summer.
Any final thoughts?
I’d like to thank my parents for driving me all over the Northeast to visit schools and go to tournaments and showcases.
