If you’re looking for a player who defines today’s attackman, look no further than Ryan McKee.

Yes, the senior standout at New York power Jamesville-DeWitt High School can score, but he also does much more.

“As an attackman, in addition to scoring, I work really hard on groundballs and riding,” he said. “I love transition and fast play.”

McKee will take his multifaceted game to Canisius College, a commitment reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-7, 160-pound McKee, who plays travel lacrosse for Team United, also plays hockey for the Red Rams.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Ryan on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Finding a school with strong academics and a solid business program, a committed lacrosse program and coaching staff, and a setting where I will be comfortable and challenged.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Toward the end of the process, in addition to Canisius, I considered and visited Sacred Heart, Hobart and Salisbury.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
Going to the college level, I’ll need to work on all facets. I’ll definitely continue to work on my off-hand and shooting.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
My dad played and had a stick in my hand before I could walk.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I have played with a few local club teams, including CNY Roadhawks and Team United since they started here in Central New York a couple of years ago.

Any final thoughts?
I’ve been fortunate to play at JD for our great coaches (coaches Archer, Elmer and Ristau).  Our JD youth program was a great way to learn and grow up playing with friends.

Ric Beardsley with United has been hugely supportive.

I’d also like to thank my parents for their support, and my dad for coaching me for as long as I can remember.
