John Fox is a speedy player with outstanding field vision who is strong with either hand.
If that sounds like the ingredients of a Division I midfielder, you’re absolutely right.
Fox, a junior at St. Augustine Prep (N.J.), has committed to Fairfield University, a verbal reported on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Fox was a varsity starter as a sophomore this past spring.
Now, here’s a Q&A with John on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Fairfield has an unbelievable lacrosse program, led by a great coaching staff. The school is in a great area and and well-known for its academics. After finishing my visits, it stood out the most to me and gave me the best opportunities.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Colgate, Richmond, St. Josephs, Villanova. I visited Colgate and Richmond.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths revolve around my speed and vision to see other players on the field and make something happen with the stick in either hand.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on my body strength and developing more of an outside shot. Also becoming a better two-way midfielder.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I began playing lacrosse in third grade following my brother and sister. I played many different sports always trying them out for a year but consistently played basketball until eighth grade.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for SouthShore Lacrosse Club, and I have attended Maverik Showtime, Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip (twice) and 2012 Fall Philly Showcase.
Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my parents for helping me through the recruiting process.
I’d also like to thank my high school and club lacrosse coach, JC Valore, for everything he has done for me, and developing me into a better player.
Finally, I’d like to thank (Fairfield Head) Coach (Andy) Copelan and the rest of the coaching staff for welcoming me to Fairfield.
