Jack Pezzulla is already one of the top goaltenders in high school lacrosse.
The Boys Latin School (Md.) standout has quick hands, is strong on low shots as well as shots that are offside high, is quick
transitioning play and effective at communicating with the defense.
The fact that he’s only a sophomore makes his recent commitment to the University of North Carolina all the more significant.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound righty, a resident of Parktown, Md., who has played with the Baltimore Breakers’ travel team since age 12, is coming off a stellar summer.
As you’ll learn, he had his pick of several of the nation’s leading D-I programs.
Considering his skills — and family history — that’s hardly a surprise.
“My grandfather Wilkie Wilkerson played for Colgate, uncle Jamie Pezzulla played for Duke, uncle Russell Wilkerson played for Washington & Lee, cousin Zachary Thomas played for Roanoke and cousin Annie Thomas currently plays for Loyola University,” Pezzulla said.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Jack on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The strong bond among players and coaches at UNC, the great coaching staff, the UNC campus and facilities, the town of Chapel Hill, the great group of guys on the team and the emphasis and commitment to family, academics and lacrosse at UNC
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I strongly considered and visited the University of Maryland, Duke University and Ohio State University
What area of your game do you need to work on?
Better low left than low right,
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My family members, starting with my grandfather, and including my uncles and cousins, have played lacrosse through college. I also play soccer and golf
What showcase events did you participate in this past summer?
UNC Freshman and Sophomore Select Camp, Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip Lacrosse Camp, Under Armour All America Lacrosse tryouts, Nike’s inaugural “The Ride” at Nike World Headquarters, King of the Hill, Crabfeast and Brine Summer Sizzle.
Any final thoughts?
Thanks to the following for their unbelievable support and guidance: Coach JJ Pearl, Coach Larry Nash, Coach Mandy Hudson, Coach Larry Quinn, Coach Bob Shriver, UNC lacrosse alum John Stahl, and most importantly my mom, dad and grandparents.
