Fox Lane High School in the rolling hills of Bedford, N.Y., halfway up Interstate 684, has had a varsity boys lacrosse program since the 1960s.
But the Foxes have never had a sophomore commit to a college program.
Until last night.
Joe Lombardi broke the news on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider expanded coverage section that Maverik Showtime National Recruiting Spotlight all-star Cullen Morgan has verbally committed to Syracuse University.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound righty is an athletic midfielder who is described as a “competitor and leader,” by Nick Daniello, director of the Prime Time travel program, where Morgan has played since Prime Time’s inception in 2009.
Morgan is a two-way midfielder with good stick skills who is a strong dodger and shooter on the run. He excels in time-and-room. shooting. You can watch Morgan’s highlight reel here.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Cullen on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Syracuse hows an outstanding business school. The lacrosse program is unbelievable and it has always been my dream to play there.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I also considered Georgetown, Maryland and UNC. I visited Georgetown and Maryland.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
Lefty time-and-room shot and off-ball movement.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My youth coach and good family friend Dan Tracy introduced me to lacrosse. I played football and I snowboard.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play on Prime Time lacrosse and I participated in Maverik Showtime, Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip, NYLA showcase, Moonlight Showcase and the University of Delaware’s MVP camp.
Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my entire family and teammates along with Dan Tracy, John Kayser, Matt Dolente, Stephen Peyser and Mike Paletta for teaching me the game. And Nick Daniello and the entire Prime Time staff for guiding me through everything and making my commitment possible.
