With the huge increase in the number of players participating in lacrosse, finding an opportunity to attend a school that is as strong academically as it is athletically is more challenging than ever.
One of the top 2014 defenders in New Jersey has been able to find a college that meets that description.
Eric Rogers of the Pingry School in Bernards, N.J., has verbally committed to the admissions process at Division III power Middlebury, a verbal first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider special coverage section.
Rogers, a righty who is also a hockey standout at Pingry, is a strong one-on-one defender who is effective at pushing the ball in transition.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Eric on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I chose Middlebury because it was the best fit academically, athletically and socially of the schools I was considering. I was looking for a school that would give me the opportunity to make an immediate impact, with a strong academic reputation.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I also visited Dartmouth, Colgate and Bucknell. I was also interested Williams, Bowdoin, Washington & Lee and Yale.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
All areas of my game need work, but I am focusing on getting better off-ball.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I got introduced to lacrosse through my older brother, Ben. I play ice hockey as well.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Tri-State, and I attended Champ Camp, Tri-State National, and various camps at specific colleges.
Any final thoughts?
I want to thank my parents for always supporting me, as well as (Tri-State) Coach (MV) Whitlow and (Pingry Head) Coach (Mike) Webster.
Middlebury is one of the hardest schools to get admission for lacrosse. Great job!
