If you’re a “Lacrosse Insider,” you already know newly named Sacred Heart University coach Jon Basti has made an immediate splash on the recruiting circuit, particularly in attracting Connecticut instate recruits.
Among the biggest catches for Basti: Class of 2014 standout Sean Herdman, an attackman at Cheshire Academy (Conn.), who has been a starter on the Cheshire varsity squad since seventh grade. Herdman made his verbal on July 28, a commitment that was first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s “Lacrosse Insider” section.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Herdman, who also is a football standout at wide receiver, plays travel lacrosse for the Connecticut Hurricanes.
Herdman has ideal size, is a strong shooter and possesses outstanding field vision.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I really liked the new business school they are building at Sacred Heart, the small class sizes, the new the facilities, the closeness to home, and (Sacred Heart Head) Coach (Jon) Basti.
What other schools did you consider?
I also considered Siena, Stevenson, University of Tampa, VMI, Manhattan College, Bentley, RIT and Denison.
What are your strengths as a player?
Shooting and vision on the field.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
Dodging
How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
I began playing lacrosse in the seventh grade and loved the sport the minute I picked up the stick. At the time, I played competitive baseball and gave that up for lacrosse.
What travel team are you on and what showcase events have you participated in?
I play for Progression Lacrosse on the Hurricanes and was showcased at Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip, King of the Hill, Gait Cup, Bulldog Bash and the Midsummer Classic.
Any other thoughts?
I want to thank my Cheshire Academy coach Jeff Davidsson for always believing in me and my ability and coaching me since the seventh grade. I’d also like to thank my summer coach Darryl Delia for honing my skills and making me a Division I level player.
