Two-way midfielders are always in high demand among collegiate recruiters.

So it should come as no surprise that Josh Egan was pursued by several Division I programs.

The junior at the Albany Academy (N.Y.) decided to stay close to home by verbally committing to the University at Albany, as first reported at Twitter.com/joe_lombardi.

Egan, an athletic player who excels in unsettled situations, played his freshman and sophomore years at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut.

recruiting_updateNow, here’a a Q&A with Josh on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I played for (University at Albany Head) Coach (Scott) Marr, (Albany Assistant) Coach (Eric) Wolf and (Albany Assistant) Coach (Liam) Gleason with Top Dog the last couple of summers and I like their coaching style.

UAlbany also has a strong business program, which is what I plan on majoring in, and it’s close to home.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Boston University, Holy Cross and UMass. I also considered Colgate and Hamilton.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My ability to play both offense and defense and get out in transition with my athleticism. I describe my style of play as a two-way midfielder who excels playing between the lines.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
Shot speed and accuracy are always areas that I’m trying to improve on.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I started playing lacrosse in third grade and loved it from the time I started playing. I also love hockey and will continue to play through high school. I’ve played baseball and basketball up until a couple years ago as well.

What travel team did you play on last summer and what showcase events did you participate in?
I played on UAlbany’s Top Dog the last couple of summers.  I loved the program and the UAlbany Top Dog coaches and that was a big factor in my decision to play for UAlbany.

I participated in the Prep School Showcase, SuperSophs, Fall-National Invite 175 and Blue Chip 225 last summer. I was an all-star selection at both Super Sophs and Blue Chip 225.
